It means that a member has passed a fraud screening test using their email address. Here’s how it works: a member starts the process by clicking on a link on our Verify By Email web page. We check to the see if the member’s email address is free or disposable. If it is not, we send an email with a coded link to the member’s email address. When the member clicks on the link, we send the email address and other information about the member to Maxmind. Maxmind calculates a fraud risk score and sends it to us. We review the score and, if it’s low enough, we verify the member. Maxmind provides fraud risk services to over 7,000 e-commerce companies.

We award a TrustShield for being verified by email. You can earn this shield if you have a verified email address that is not freemail (examples: Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) or hosted by a disposable email service provider.
